The humblest servant of a cloth diapering mom is the doubler. This simple pad-like item is added to the diaper for naps or nighttime to increase the amount of time baby can stay in the same diaper - thus giving more sleep to everyone involved.
Typically, I don't start using doublers on my little ones until they are sleeping 6+ hours at a time. The tiny ones, who need to nurse every few hours, can just as easily be changed at nursing time. However, once I begin to have nights - and not just a night-shift that includes naps, these doublers are critical!

The variety that I use are just plain and simple - and thus only $2.60 each (including shipping). This doubler can be used from infant to toddler, and measures 4 by 14 inched. It is made of two layers of absorbant terry cloth, sandwiched between a top and bottom layer of 100% cotton flannel (which wicks the moisture away from baby, leaving him/her feeling dry at night).
The other little necessity is the Snappi. Don't forget to head over to that page! Once baby starts to wiggle and wobble around, that diaper isn't going to stay put with just a cover - it will need diaper pins or Snappi fasteners.
