Welcome to Mama's Love

Designed to meet the needs of my family & budget,
all of my products are made with care for yours!

To order cloth diapers, scroll to the charts at the bottom of this page and choose your home's location (within the US or out in the world).

For my small business, so far, the US Postal Service has been the most economical way to ship.  The USPS divides the United States into 8 shipping zones, and the rest of the world into 9 zones.  Identify your zone, and you'll be able to see exactly how much your size and quantity of diapers will cost to mail - as well as what extras can fit into the same package for no additional postage!

Prefold Diapers
These marvelous things are both what I use on my babies' bottoms and in my sewing business.  I have to order them in huge quantities from their overseas manufacturers, so I offer the extra dozens to you at very low prices - it helps me manage my inventory and stomach the cost of those large orders! Note: Shipping is the killer, so I don't charge any excess for packaging or handling - just what the post office charges me.

These products are part of my stay-at-home business, and as such are covered by my absolute guarantee:

If you just decide you don't like cloth diapering, I will take these diapers back. I can do that, because I can recycle lightly used diapers into my sewing creations.

*If you return them with no signs of wear or tear (washed or unwashed is fine), I will issue you a 95% refund of your purchase price.
*If they are lightly stained, but not wearing thin, the refund will be 65-75% of your purchase price.
* If you have used them so much (usually it takes 2-3 babies to accomplish this) that they have begun to wear thin and tear, then I can't use them.

You'll notice, if you shop around, that no one has a return policy like this - usually because they only sell the diaper, and don't have a use for them like I do! That's also why I can undersell others' prices - because these are simply overstocks from my sewing business!

I only order the Indian Prefolds, as they are superior in quality to the Chinese Prefolds.  Orders arrived brand-new, and will need to be washed and dried 2-3 times in hot water before they are fluffy and absorbant enough to be used on baby's bottom.

Okay - here's what all these diapering terms mean:

Prefold:   Prefold diapers are the most economical kind of cloth diaper on the market.  In the olden days, diaper came as 1 layer thick, and very large - and had to be folded into the right size after every wash.  "Prefolds" are the very same diaper, only sewn so that they stay folded in the wash.  It has has three sections - two outer "wings" that are thinner, and a heavier center section.  Each diaper can easily last through two babies and into the third before they begin to wear thin.

4x8x4:  This refers to the number of layers in the prefold diaper.  The edges have 4 layers of fabric, and the center has 8.  This is the best absorbancy you will find.

Toddler:  This refers to the size.  There are 5 sizes available:

  • Premie:  These are only practical for itty-bitty premies.  They are 2x6x2 - quite thin and little, but perfect for tiny ones.  Babies born at 6 pound or more can just as easily start in the infant size.
  • Infant:  These are the diapers you'll use for the first 3 months.  Guidelines state that these fit babies from 7-15 pounds, although I generally find they start getting small for 12+ pound babies.  They can come as 2x5x2, 4x6x4, or 4x8x4 - although I only offer 4x8x4, because I think it's the best.
  • Regular:  For 15-30 pound babies, this is for the rolling, crawling, and stepping ages.  You can skip this size and go straight to toddler, though, if you don't mind a bit of bulkiness slowing them down between 12-18 pounds.
  • Premium:  as wide as the regulars, but thicker (4x8x4) and 1" longer - these are an interesting "in-between" size that I never really liked.  I ordered them once by accident, and have been forcing myself to use them ever since.  The width of the diaper is what the baby grows out of - not the length.
  • Toddler:  These are the workhorse diapers - the ones your baby will be in from as early as 5 months until they are toilet trained.  They are also the best burp rags (because they are the biggest).  I start using this size when my babies are about 16 pounds, even though they are supposedly for 30+ pound toddlers.  These are all 4x8x4.

Indian:  I've found three basic kinds of prefold diaper on the market:  Indian, Chinese, and Gerber.
  • Indian prefolds are the best for babies' bottoms, in my opinion.  They remain smooth, soft, and wash very well.
  • Chinese prefolds are also acceptable, but they are rougher-textured, and tend to "pill" more and more as they are washed.  Chinese prefolds are best used for appliqued burp rags, since they remain stiffer and more true to the original rectangle shape over time.
  • Gerber, the brand we all know, also makes diapers.  I think they're only good as thin burp rags or washing cloths for baby's bottom - as they don't have enough layers to absorb an average wetting (at least for my babies).

Unbleached:  Prefold diapers come either bleached or unbleached.  Unbleached prefolds are softer, more absorbent and will last longer than a bleached version as well as being void of the chemicals and dioxins used during the bleaching process.  Personally, I prefer the unbleached, although to be honest, my bleached diapers have lasted just as long as my unbleached ones.

How many do I need?  If you do a load every other day, you can get by with 2 dozen per baby.  I like having 4-6 dozen around, though, so I have a safety net for those busy weeks.

So, it seems like a big initial investment.  How does it compare to disposable diapers?

Your savings on the 1st child (in cloth versus diapers) is $1929.

Your savings on the 2nd child (nothing needs replacing until #3) is $2310.

Your savings on the 3rd child (about ½ of the supplies need replacing) is $2120 .

If you only have 1 child in diapers, then you can easily resell your diapers and covers for about 30-40% of your original purchase price.
